This week was the best-so many miracles!
Yellowstone was a blast!! We
had to wear full proselyting clothes, which is fine just awkward. Our
zone leaders called us the night before with "good news" They told us
that they would allow all of us to wear tennis shoes with our
proselyting clothes! Sister Corry and I just started laughing. We tried
to explain to them that Nike's wouldn't look too good with a skirt. I
don't think they understood, but we stuck to our flats. All of the
elders wore tennis shoes. Hiking in a skirt isn't too enjoyable, but
it's a great memory!
The highlight of this week was definitely Bertha and Preston's baptism. Their baptism was Saturday at 2:30. We were planning on being there a little early, so we got there at 1:30
and realized that we don't have a key to the closet to get the clothes
for the baptism. But there is a secret key in an office so we went to
get that. There is a font coordinator so someone is assigned to fill the
baptismal font when needed. We saw that the light was on in the font so
we weren't worried. We got the key and came back. By this time it was 1:40.
Sister Corry opens the door and yells, "THE FONT IS EMPTY!!!" I yell
back, "WHAT?!" (que minor panicking.) We both knelt down and said a
quick prayer for help to know how to get the font filled in time.
(Preston is like 6'6" so it needed to be full!) Right after the prayer
we ran into the men's bathroom. We walked straight to a safe looking
thing that was locked. I grabbed a key and pried it open. Then we saw 3
valves and had no idea what they went to. Then we saw a sign in it that
said the font takes 2 1/2 hours to fill. Yeah right it did!!! We turned
on the valves and heard the water going. We called Brother Beck (The
Stafford's best friend and the man baptizing Preston) he answered and we
yelled "The Font's not full! come help us!" I had never heard him yell,
but he said quite loudly in a football coach's voice, "SISTERS! WHY IS
THE FONT NOT FULL?" We said, "I don't know! but bring buckets!" Then we
both ran to the kitchen, found some big pots, put our hair up, took off
our socks and shoes and took our battle stations. Mine was in the
women's bathroom and sister corry's was in the kitchen. We had the font
on full blast and were hauling buckets of water back and forth to dump
into the font. We were running around like chickens with our heads cut
off. The font' wasn't too clean, so I had to hike up my skirt and go in
to grab all the bugs and make sure the water was warm enough - it
wasn't, the hot water was gone. Brother Beck got there and was helping
us and then people started coming. Luckily, we were starting in the
chapel because there were so many people. We didn't dare tell Bertha or
Preston because we didn't want to stress them out. Some other elders
came and we put them in charge of turning off the water right before we
all came in. So the baptism service started, and after the talks,
everyone went to the baptism room. Sister Corry and I sprinted there
before everyone, and our stomachs dropped when we heard what sounded
like a bathtub draining! We whip open the doors and luckily it was just a
small leak. Preston had plenty of room to be baptized by immersion! The
baptism wen't so well. The spirit was incredibly strong and the
confirmation the next day was amazing. We ended up telling Bertha and
Preston everything and they just laughed. I love the Stafford family so
much!!! The Adversary really didn't want them to get baptized- because
they are going to be the best members ever!
Teva came in to the Visitors' Center yesterday and
showed us his baptism and confirmation certificate! But the wrote the
wrong date on it! haha!! He is doing well. He has deiced to stay here
another semester to work for his professor, then he will go do an
internship in Provo in January.
We decided yesterday to only go to one Sacrament Meeting instead of all 3 to spend more time in our area on Sunday
morning. There is this woman named Heather who we have been trying to
get to come to church for so long. We decided to go to her house and see
if we could teach her a lesson and her son answered the door all
dressed up! And we are like, hey why are you all dressed up? And he said
we are going to church! come in! So we go in and Heather is all dressed
up and ready to go! So we went to church with them and it was
wonderful! That was sacrament meeting #1. Sacrament meeting #2 was the
confirmation for Bertha and Preston-so good. We felt like we should
leave right after the confirmation to take care of some other things we
needed to do, which was weird because usually we would just stay for the
whole thing. Well, good thing we didn't because a woman we have been
trying to get a hold of for so long to teach her son walked past us in
the hall and asked if she could take us out to lunch! duh we said yes.
She also said that her son was wondering if we could teach him before he
is baptized. Yes again!
A family from India came into the Visitors' Center
earlier this week. They had so much respect for the Visitors' Center.
They asked if they were allowed to come in the Visitors' Center while
dressed in street clothes and they also asked if they should take of
their shoes when close to the Christus Statue. I was able to talk with
them for awhile and explain our beliefs. They were very receptive. The
Father asked me if we use a fragrance here. I said no and asked why. He
explained that when he was washing his face in the bathroom, he could
smell a similar fragrance as the one in the Hindu temple that he goes
to. He said that he felt a lot of peace from that. It was the perfect
opportunity for me to explain the Holy Ghost and how it works and that
he is probably relating the Holy Ghost to the scent in the temple. He
said that he gets the same feeling at the VC as he does at his temple.
They all gave me their information so I can keep in touch and teach them
more. I'll let you know how that goes! I had two more Hindu families
come in later this week! Thank goodness I taught Teva! I never though I
would be teaching Hindu people while serving in Idaho Falls!
We did 2 exchanges this past week. We were really
busy. Just lots of stuff going on! I love the opportunity I have to get
to know the other sisters more! They're great.
Heavenly
Father is so aware of us in our little patch of Idaho Falls. I'm so
grateful for him. I love my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ so much! all
things are possible through him. I have no idea how we knew to go into
the men's bathroom to find the valves for the font, or where to find big
enough pots etc. it all worked out perfectly.
Transfer calls are this week. Pray that Sister Corry and I can stay together!
Love,
