I'll start this email
out with a spider story. One thing that July brings is hobo spiders.
They are disgusting. I was showering this morning and when I came out of
the shower, I was surprised to see a hobo spider staring at me. It
looked like it wanted to eat me alive. I yelled for sister Corry to come
downstairs to see it. She comes running down to the rescue. We got out
the scrubbing bubbles to intoxicate it and she had a shoe in her hand
prepared to kill it. So I started spraying and man those spiders are
fast!!! He ran a lot but not far enough to escape the wrath of the shoe
from sister Corry. It was quite eventful. I shouldn't complain, I'm sure
that Rissa sees spiders the size of her face everyday.
Caleb got the priesthood at church yesterday! And Bertha and Preston got the OK to get baptized on August 17th.
We are all really really excited. I wish you all could come to it
because it's going to be AWESOME! The Stafford family is great. Sister
Corry and I feel like they are family to us. we have gotten really close
to them. And Preston's diabetes cookies are getting much better.
At church yesterday, Brother Beck (He comes with us
to all the lessons at the Stafords') showed me a cool trick. He carries
around his scripture case at church, but instead of scriptures in side,
he fills it with candy! and he uses his phone for his scriptures. haha
Yesterday, I taught 5 non members at the visitors'
center. One elderly woman was from Thailand. She didn't know any English
but was so loving. She kept holding my hand and smiling at me. I played
the Christus in Thai for her and she loved it. You could see the peace
from the Holy Ghost wash over her as she listened. She accepted a Book
of Mormon in Thai and seemed excited to read it. A family from China
came in too. They flew in to Seattle, rented a car and are driving
across America! They didn't know too much English but they took Books of
Mormon in Chinese! We talked about Seattle for awhile and the things
they saw there. They knew about the Bible which helped me explain the
Book of Mormon to them. Most people that come in from China have never
heard of Jesus Christ or the Bible. Right before they left, the wife
told me "Just one moment" and she went to her car for a few minutes and
came back in. She gave me some ornaments from China and said thank you. I
gave her a big hug!!! She was so nice.
One funny thing...every night before we turn the car
off, we have to record our miles. We are allotted 900 miles a month. We
record how many miles we used during the day, the total number of miles
for the month and for the car. We were recording it and the miles for
the month was up to 666.6, well we didn't want to write that number
down! So we drove around the block about 3 times until it went to 667.0
haha!
This week we had interviews with President and
Sister Brinkerhoff. I LOVE the Brinkerhoff's! They are great and so
inspired. President shared with me how important home and visiting
teachers are. They help so much in the ward....so do your home and
visiting teaching!
Sister Corry and her Trainer Sister Hanza taught a
woman named Dallas a year ago. She finally decided to be baptized! So
Sister Hanza (Now Sister Hayden because she is married) came with her
husband Sam for the weekend. They came to the Visitors' center Friday night to visit us and then we all went to the baptism on Saturday. There was about 12 sister missionaries there that had taught her!
I have been obsessed with the Book of Mormon lately.
I can't seem to put it down. This morning I was reading in Helaman
chapter 3. Verses 1-3 talk about pride. It is talking about how there
was just a little bit of pride in the land during the year and a few
years later there was a LOT of contention! It hit me how bad pride is.
It just starts with a little bit and blossoms into a full force forest
fire of contention.
Sister Corry and I are starting exchanges again! We
have 5 to do this transfer and we are going to try to get them done in 2
weeks. Wish us luck!
One funny thing that Caleb said to me at church while I was writing in a notebook:
Caleb: "Stop Texting"
Me:"I'm not texting!"
Caleb: "You are ancient texting. Stop it!"
Smart kid.
love you!
