On Monday
night, we went out to Wapello to contact some people. We had a Less
Active family named the Kofed's to contact. We drive up to their house
and it looks way sketchy and creepy, and it was dark out. There were 8
foot tall fences all around their yard. Sister Leguizamon got kind of
scared and said she didn't want to go. So we finally got ready to go and
said our prayer of protection. Right before getting out of the car, I
saw something BIG move. I turned on the brights, and there is an ELK!!!!
We were like, what is an elk doing in someone's yard? We get out of the
car and it stands up. We bolted to their front door. They let us in and
they were super nice!! We had a nice chat and they let us share a
message with them. Sister Kofed said that she is going to start coming
back to church! Then we started asking them why they had an elk. They
said that they have 12 elk, goats, Yaks and their pet kangaroo just
died. They took us outside to go look at all of the animals. I have
officially pet a yak. Thank goodness I can cross that off of my bucket
list! We asked them who we could go teach and Sister Kofed says, "Oh!
I'm so glad you asked! My friend Kate just moved back here a week ago
and her husband Jesus said that he wants to be baptized!" We were
shocked and excited! So we got their info. We called Kate the next day
and she said the same thing. So we set up an appointment for the
following day. Jesus and Kate are hilarious. They have been married for
almost 1 year! Kate has 3 kids, 2 of the boys were just recently
baptized and they are obsessed with temples. They try to visit one
anytime they go on a trip. When we got there, Jesus asked us to call him
Zeus because everyone calls him Jesus (like Jesus Christ) "But I'm not
that guy!" Zeus calls himself a "Mexican Hippie" because he wears his
"Corduroy's and Bob Marley Sandals" He is the most relaxed person I have
probably ever met. Dan Neff (Assistant ward mission leader) lives
across the street and the other day he needed help herding his cows. So
he came over and asked Zeus is he was doing anything. He said no. Dan
said, "Well I need help herding some cows, can you help me?" So Zeus
went out in his sweats and tennies while Dan is in his cowboy get-up and
helped him out. That's member missionary work for ya! Well anyways, our
lesson went really really good. He said that he is ready to be
baptized! He is preparing for November 30th!! So exciting.
After the elk house, we were trying to contact more
people. We drove past this house that looked incredibly creepy. The
lights were on but it looked like this man was standing in the front
door just staring out at the world! We kept driving and I thought I had
found the driveway to a house we needed to go to, so I turned down it
and then sister Leguizamon says, "Sister Kuhns, this is sand. We are
going to get stuck. Let's get out of here." so I try to back out, and
yep, you guessed it we got completely stuck. We said a prayer and I got
out to try to push the car out. Definitely not strong enough. It was
almost 9 and we really needed to get home and it was dark! We didn't
know what to do so I said, "Let's just go knock on the neighbor and see
if they can tow us out." We looked at what house it was, it was the
creepy one we had just drove past! Sister Leguizamon stayed on the lawn
and I went up and knocked on the door. They turned out to be a part
member family! The wife even recognized me from the hand gun activity a
few weeks ago! Lucky for us, they had 3 pick-ups and lots of tow ropes.
We all went back to our car and had to dig out lots of sand before they
could tow us out. We were in our dresses and had to get on our hands and
knees to get all of the sand out. We were so gross after. It was such
an adventure!! I loved it! And we are going to go back and try to teach
the family :) Heavenly Father puts you in the right place at the right
time!
We are still teaching the Eddington's! They are
doing so so good. The girls are hilarious. the 3 year old June loves to
sing and play her pink guitar. She does the opening and closing song
sometimes. She also loves to pray. Yesterday, Kaycee picked on me to say
the closing prayer, but June just starting praying about pumpkins
instead. They made us Halloween bags with candy and fake mustache's!
Have you guys heard of Duck Dynasty? I guess it is this show where these
hicks have long beards? Well, Kaycee is going to be one of the bearded
men for Halloween! haha!
We had to go to Pocatello earlier this week to help
some sisters and Sister Brinkerhoff took all of us to the temple! What a
treat. I love going there - it's so peaceful :) We have just been
running all over the place!! There are always things to do and we are so
busy. Sometimes it feels like we get no time in our area, but when we
look back on it, we realized how Heavenly Father has magnified our time
there. We are so blessed!!!
I just love being a missionary!!! It is so much fun
and you get to see so many miracles! I am so blessed. I don't ever want
it to end.
I love you all have a fantastic week!
love,
Sister Kuhns
