Monday started with an amazing
experience. We met Brittney. She lives out in Wapello and moved in about
3 years ago. A few weeks ago she asked her friend/neighbor if she goes
to the Mormon church and if she could go with. So she went all on her
own! On Monday we went to her house and got to know her. When she opened
the door for us she said, "I have been waiting for you!!" She has had
such a rough life but is making a big turn around. We taught her about
the Gospel and how it can bless her family. She told us how badly she
wants to invite Christ into her life. It feels like we have known her
forever. She has such a special place in my heart. We invited her to be
baptized and she accepted!! We have seen her quite a few times now. From
getting to know her more, she has some things in her life that she
needs to work out so she won't be able to get baptized for a few years,
but she is still so strong. We are going to continue to meet with her.
Pray for her!
Last night, we were driving to dinner and we passed a
house that Sister Riding and I had gone to. They are the Alba family.
When we went there, we met the mom Sandra and she said that she was
working harvest and to come back in a month or two. So we haven't been
back since. But when we drove by, I got the strongest feeling that we
needed to go there after dinner. So after dinner, we went back to their
house and all of their cars were home. We said a prayer telling Heavenly
Father that the desire of our heart was to invite this family to be
baptized. So we went in and she was like, "What took you so long!" We
taught the whole family except for the dad because he is truckin'. They
are a beautiful family! We felt so comfortable in their home and it was a
bonus because Sister Leguizamon could speak Spanish to Sandra to help
her understand some things. Sandra told us that her home is our home. We
started talking about eternal families and how their family can be
strengthened from joining the church. We invited them all to be baptized
and they accepted!!
I have seen so many miracles this week. We have been
trying so hard to keep our mission standard of excellence and be
EXACTLY obedient. We fasted yesterday and have felt on fire ever since.
The beginning of the week was so hard - Sister training leader stuff,
exchanges, people not home etc. But we kept pushing on and would not
allow ourselves to be discouraged.
I love being a missionary. I could do this forever.
Coming home is becoming very bittersweet to me. I feel like I finally
get it. I am figuring things out and know how to be a great missionary!
I love you all so much! Have a wonderful week :)
love,
Sister Kuhns
some "classics" for the week:
"When I signed up to give you a ride, all I wanted to know was if I have to be all spiritual with you."
"Good morning sisters! Is the gospel still true?"
That moment when during the Wapello 2nd primary program, a young boy played I am a child of God on a recorder.
That terrifying moment when instead of taking us home at 9pm, our GPS guided us into a corn field. Michael Scott anyone?
That
awkward moment when Sister Kissner called us to give us the dinner
schedule for the week. When she got to Wednesday night, she said that she and her husband were feeding us. She proceeded to tell us their
first and last names and their phone number - all while we were on the
phone with her...
That moment when Nurse Nelson said that she and her
husband were counting their teeth and they could count how many they had
on one hand.
That AWESOME moment when someone made us cake with Penuche frosting!!!!!
