January 28, 2013 letter

Hello Everyone!

This week has been awesome!

Do you all remember Eduardo? He came into the VC awhile back asking to study the book of mormon with someone. We started teaching and then we hadn't been able to get in touch with him for about a month buuuuut we finally got in touch with him!! We taught him, gave him a church tour and he came to church on Sunday!! He is so great.

You guys I just love Teva! He is so faithful and diligent. He is going to be a lifelong friend to me. We have been teaching him a lot with Elder Kubie and Elder Workman and it is such a great experience. The spirit is incredibly strong in every lesson that we have with him!

The MTC Experience was a success!!!! We had 22 priests and laurels show up! Sister Turner and Sister Eberle taught a class on preparing for a mission, Elder Corbett and Elder Moore taught a class on how to begin teaching and Elder Kubie and Elder Workman taught a class on Teaching by the spirit. In the beginning, we had Elder and Sister Kinghorn (The VC coordinators) act as the mission president for the MTC. It was awesome. Then we watched the talk by Thomas S. Monson announcing the age change for missionaries. Then we departed for classes. Then we had a Q&A session and then it was lunch time. In the mission everyone plays "The Sandwhich Game" it's where if you have two pieces of seperate bread (Subs don't count because the bread is connected) and meat in between then you have a sandwhich. You can protect your sandwhich by eaither separating your sandwhich or putting something on top of your sandwhich that doesn't belong (Such as a cheeto or a brownie)If your sandwhich isn't protected then you can smash it with your hand. If your sandwhich gets smashed, you cannot get mad and you still have to eat it. We were smashing sandwhiches left and right!! It was so funny.

Sister Bushman and Sister Shaeffer were super sick this week. Sister Shaeffer's companion, Sister Jijon, and I were just healthy. So I called Sister Jijon in the morning and asked if she wanted to go on exchanges and work at the VC together and then go to her area. It got approved by President and we went together for the whole day. The VC was fun together and working in her area was hilarious. They are spanish speaking missionaries haha. When we got into her car, I told her that she can only speak spanish to me tonight. I asked her to teach me to say "How do you say....." and "What did you say?" in spanish. It worked really good and it was super funny. All of the lessons we taught were in spanish, and one of them was half spanish half english. But I still had the same promptings that she had! It was cool because she would look at me during a lesson and I would tell her what question to ask or what scripture to share and IT WORKED!!!! So Rissa, just be obedient and patient with the language and the spirit will tell you what to say :) Oh and at our last lesson, the husband came out without pants on. Super awkward.

We did a musical number in the 28th ward yesterday. It was an arrangement of I Know that My Redeemer Lives. I played piano and Sister Bushman sang. it went really really good. She has such a pretty voice.

We found 3 new investigators this week! Their names are David and Alanna (engaged) and David is the other one. haha. We have been very very blessed in our area.

Transfer calls are this week!!! I think I am staying. but we will see. We have 4 sisters and 19 sisters coming to the mission! There aren't too many going home, so there will probably be some new areas opening.

You guys, I just love the mission. I feel like I am finally at the point where I never want to come home. I love what I do. I feel like the name tag I wear every day is just a part of who I am now. It is a wonderful feeling.

I love you all so much! You are great! Thanks for everything that you do for me! Make good choices :)
