For the 4th of July, the whole mission got an all-day p-day and we got to stay out until 11pm (We usually have to be in by 9pm). Our Zone Leaders called us Wednesday night and invited us to a flag raising put on by Elder D. Todd Christofferson on Thursday morning. Of course, we said we would be there. On our way home Wednesday
night, Sister Corry had the idea to find the house so we would know
where to go in the morning. So we drove to the house where the flag
raising is going to be held at. We drive by the house and the door is
wide open and Elder Christofferson is sitting on a chair for the whole
world to see. We started screaming we were so excited! I think we both
might have started crying too. We drove by again to see him for a second
time. What an adrenaline rush. Well we could hardly sleep that night
because we couldn't wait for morning to come! We got up and went to the
flag raising (Wearing red, white and blue of course) and yes he was
there. We were mingling with the members out on the front lawn and he
called us over. We had a nice chat for awhile and he even called us
beautiful. He told us that he would be assigning missionaries that Friday
and he would try to get the mission some more! What a tender mercy to
meet him. He is also Sister Corry's favorite apostle so she was stoked.
After the flag raising, we went to the parade! I
felt like a celebrity. I have never heard the word "Sister!" used so
many time in an hour. It was great to talk with so many people though.
The parade was good. My favorite float was this one for a haunted house
called Dr. Slaughters. everyone was dressed up as zombies and doing the
thriller dance. My least favorite float was these belly dancer hula
hooping ladies.
After the parade, we went home to take a nap. That
was glorious. Then we walked down to the River/Green Belt. Man,
festivals sure bring out the best in people right? We were asked
numerous times to teach people about modesty. I saw a lot of people
from school there and we saw a lot of returned missionaries! Sister
Owens tracked us down and sat with us as we waited for the fire works!
The fireworks didn't start until almost 11 so we got
to see two minutes of it before we sprinted home.
Our District Leader is pretty witty. At District
Meeting, there was a young man there who just got his mission call to
Kansas. It got really quiet and then Elder Scullion said "When you come
home from your mission you can say 'I'm not in Kansas anymore' " hah.
We had Mission Leadership Counsel this past Friday.
That meeting is the one with President and Sister Brinkerhoff, the
Assistants, all of the Zone Leaders and Sister Training Leaders. Sister
Corry and I got to give a training on dress & grooming. There is a
website about missionary dress & grooming for Sisters and now elders
as well! Everyone has to use side bags instead of back packs now,
because they will be safer and more convenient to carry i-Pads around
in. and they are more professional. The mission boundaries are
officially changed. There is a new zone called the Soda Springs Zone.
Sister Corry and I were chatting with a man mormon.org
at the visitors' center. He is SO prepared! He was researching the
church and asked us where to go to church and when. We taught him how to
pray, what happens in church, etc. He said he would go to church and
pray! We were able to get in contact with the Bishop and Missionaries
where he lives. I love those experiences! Sometimes it
feels like I will never find someone through chat or phone calls. But when we find
someone, it is really exciting.
There is a baptism on Wednesday!
Sister Corry's birthday is this Wednesday.
She is turning the big 2-3! I am trying to figure out what to make her
for breakfast, but we are trying to eat healthier so I will probably
just stick a candle in an apple and call it good.
Also transfer calls are this week. This transfer flew by.
I hope everyone had a fun and exciting week!
love,
Sister Kuhns
